Why Organic Cotton & Cashmere

From Cashmere to Muddy Puddles: Clothes Made for Real Kids

We started as a 100% cashmere offering. But after life with Mika and Milo — our own children — we realised that pure cashmere, however beautiful, isn't built for the way kids actually live. Park playdates, tree-climbing, woodland missions, spilled fish-finger dinners. So we moved into a hard-wearing, everyday collection built for real childhood: machine-washable organic cotton with just enough cashmere to keep the softness.

We want kids to be kids. Childhood flies by — it should be filled with the mucky, joyful chaos that makes it so special.

Designed for Real Life

Our 95% organic cotton, 5% cashmere blend is built for real wear. Spilled ketchup mid-fish-finger session? No problem. Wash on a cool delicate cycle and it's ready for the next adventure. Non-itch on sensitive skin, breathable through the seasons, and heavyweight enough to survive everything childhood throws at it.

The Cotton

Our cotton is sourced from a GOTS-certified mill — meaning it meets the highest global standards for organic farming, water use, fair labour, and environmental impact.

GOTS-certified cotton is:

  • Better for the planet. Significantly less water than conventional cotton — and around half the carbon emissions per kilogram.
  • Better for people. Pesticide-free, protecting farmers' health and local waterways. Farmers work under fair labour standards.
  • Better for little ones. Softer, more durable, and gentler on sensitive skin.

MIKA & MILO is not yet GOTS-certified as a brand — that's a goal we're working toward.

The Cashmere

The remaining 5% of our blend is cashmere from Inner Mongolia, the heartland of the world's finest cashmere. Our father, Peter Stevenson, began the family relationship with the herders there forty years ago — and we still work with the same artisan families today. The cashmere is traceable to source, combed by hand (not sheared) so animal welfare comes first, and chosen for the warmth and softness only Inner Mongolian winters produce.

Four generations of one Scottish textile family — from an Edinburgh tweed mill to a Hong Kong studio, by way of Inner Mongolia — has taught us how to choose materials.

Buy Less, Choose Well, Pass It On

Premium kidswear should outlast a single childhood. Our pieces are designed to be passed down through siblings, cousins, godchildren — and where they wear out, our Mended for Life programme repairs them free of charge, forever, by the same artisans who knit them.

There is no Planet B. The small daily choices add up. Thank you for choosing clothes that care for both your children and the planet they'll inherit.
