How MIKA & MILO Started

For Aiko, stepping into the world of textiles was almost inevitable. After a dynamic career as a broadcast journalist with the BBC World, CNN, and CNBC Europe, followed by eight years of writing about climate change for the Huffington Post, she returned to her roots and joined the family business. 

And, it was during her pregnancy with Milo that the vision for MIKA & MILO started to came to life. Frustrated by the lack of perfect cashmere blankets—finding them either too thin or too small—Aiko decided to create her own. What began as a quest for the coziest baby blanket soon evolved into a full-fledged children’s collection, lovingly named after her two children, Mika and Milo.

Why Cashmere?

Cashmere is more than just a luxury—it’s a practical choice for little ones. Naturally breathable, it helps regulate body temperature as babies move from chilly outdoor adventures to the warmth of indoors. It’s up to eight times warmer than wool yet incredibly lightweight, making it ideal for delicate skin.

And when cared for properly, cashmere is remarkably durable, transforming it into the perfect hand-me-down fabric. In an era where sustainability matters more than ever, we believe in creating pieces that can be cherished for generations.

And a fews ago, MIKA & MILOmoved into a GOTS certified organic cotton-cashmere blend—a more affordable, everyday collection designed for active little explorers. Whether they’re climbing trees, building forts, or enjoying a messy fish-finger dinner, this range is as practical as it is beautiful. Simply toss it in the wash on a delicate cycle, and it’s ready for another day of play.

Did you know organic cotton is softer, more durable, and better for the planet than conventional cotton? It uses far less water, produces fewer carbon emissions, and avoids harmful chemicals, protecting both farmers and their water supplies. While MIKA & MILO is not yet GOTS certified, our yarn supplier is, and we’re actively working toward certification to ensure the highest standards of sustainability.
