Connecting with Nature During the Lockdown

I think that it is pretty safe to presume that we are ALL wearing either our PJ's or tracky bums and a cosy cashy (our family slang for cashmere jumper) during this unprecedented lockdown.

Now, I must admit that whilst it is very tempting to stay in your pyjamas ALL day long, having a hot shower and getting ready for the day really helps to lift one's mood, even if you're only changing into your gym knit. It makes me feel a little less slovenly, for at least I'm dressed and ready to go out for my daily walk.

Now more than ever before, it is SO important to get out at least once a day to connect with the Natural World around us. Otherwise, it is far too easy to fall down the rabbit hole of despair, especially if you're dipping into the news all day long.

I find that getting some fresh air and looking up at the sky and seeing a bird fly, or looking at the stars in the night's sky really helps to put everything in perspective. It makes me feel so small and insignificant, yet an integral part of this beautiful planet that provides us home.

And, whilst this time is hard, it is up to each of us to turn this crisis into an opportunity. For some of us that will mean becoming more creative, or connecting with our kids and Loved ones more. Perhaps for some of us that will mean finally writing that book that you've always wanted to write. It's really up to each of us to decide which way we wish to use this opportunity. I imagine that a lot of wonderful music is being made at home at the moment and look forward to its much needed renaissance.

Whichever way you decide to go, it's best not to squander this chance for when will we ever get this chance again? This is literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something that you have always wanted to.

Have you all read Kitty O’Meara’s poem about the pandemic? Its about the silver linings that come out of disasters. For those of you who haven't read it, please find it below. It's a simple yet poignant portrayal of hope during these challenging times. Let’s hope that many silver linings come out of these extraordinary times. Stay safe and live well X

“And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows.

And the people began to think differently. And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal."
