There's a moment, somewhere around age three, when children become collectors. Not of toys exactly, but of small narratives. A favourite story. A familiar tune at bedtime. A jumper, knit with a flock of sheep across the front, that they wear three days in a row and then ask for again on Monday.
This is about that jumper.
The Sheep Collection
We knit two pieces that share the same flock-of-sheep jacquard, in two colourways and two silhouettes.
The Flock of Sheep Jumper in Iceland Blue is our boys' bestseller. Heavyweight knit, jacquard sheep drifting across the front, a soft Iceland Blue that holds up against finger paints and the dryer. 95% organic cotton and 5% cashmere — non-itch on the most delicate skin, machine-washable, sizes 2–10.
The Little Bo Peep Jumper in Bubble Gum is the girls' equivalent. Same flock of sheep, knit in a softer Bubble Gum pink. It pairs with the Little Bo Peep Pencil Skirt for a coordinated set, or layers under the Chestnut Leaves Cardigan for cooler mornings. Five-star reviews from parents whose daughters refuse almost everything else.
Both are knit row by row in our 4th-generation Scottish textile studio. The sheep aren't printed onto the fabric — they're built into it, the way our grandparents knit jumpers eighty years ago. Which means the design won't peel, fade, or crack through repeat washes.
Why a print matters more than you'd think
A children's print has one job: to make the child want to wear the garment. Sounds obvious, but most children's clothing is designed around what parents want to buy. The result is rooms full of cute, soft, organic, ethically-sourced pieces that never leave the drawer.
A good print works the other way around. It gives the child a reason to reach for the piece. It becomes "the sheep one" — recognisable enough to feel like theirs, quiet enough to wear to school without comment. We've spent the last four years honing what makes a print earn that status. The sheep collection is what came out of it.
A quiet promise behind every piece
Like every MIKA & MILO piece, the Sheep Collection is Mended for Life. If your daughter pulls a stitch racing through nettles, or your son sleeps in his jumper one too many nights, send it back to us. We'll repair it free of charge — by the same hands that knit it. No receipts required. We designed the collection assuming it would be worn through, and then handed down.
Sizing notes
The Sheep Collection runs true to size. If your child is between sizes, we recommend going up — the knit softens a little after the first wash and the longer length carries them into a second autumn.
