Ply and gauge are terms used to describe the way a jumper is knitted: it does not refer to the quality or value of the sweater. The weight of your jumper directly determines its value: the heavier the knit, the more expensive it becomes as more material has been used to make it.

What is Gauge?

Guage is the number of needles used per inch.

The lower the gauge, the more loosely knit the sweater is.
The higher the gauge, the more tightly knit the sweater is.

What is Ply?

Ply is the number of individual strands twisted together to form a piece of yarn.

The twisting process helps to form yarn much like braiding your hair.
2-ply yarn consists of two strands twisted in opposite directions and then twisted together to create resistance.
By using 2-ply yarn, your jumper will hang straight and luxuriously.
A sweater made with a single ply only has motion only in one direction and this can cause your jumper to warp and hang rather badly.
Also, the thicker the ply, the heavier and warmer your jumper becomes.

Cashmere LOVES water so the best way to clean it is to hand wash it in lukewarm water with a touch of soap.

As cashmere is a natural fibre, some pilling will take place so we recommend washing your garments after they have been worn two to three times.

Hand Washing

  1.  Put your cashmere in some lukewarm water with only a touch of wool liquid detergent.
  2.  Please not not use any fabric softener
  3.  Gently distribute the suds.
  4.  Do not soak or wring it (as this will stretch the cashmere fibres which will lose their shape)
  5.  Rinse the item thoroughly in clean lukewarm water
  6.  Squeeze the item of excess water gently by wrapping it in a towel.
  7.  Reshape the garment and lay it flat to dry away from direct sunlight.
  8.  Please do not hang it as it will stretch and lose its shape.
  9. If you wish to iron it, please use only the lowest delicate setting, and move the iron quickly so that it does not burn and ruin the garment.
